Specialist Mentoring & Wellbeing Coaching for Young People aged 13-25

A space for young people to feel understood and supported

Cheshire & UK

Being a young person can feel overwhelming at times, especially when things feel harder to understand, manage or explain.

You might notice your child is struggling with emotions, school, friendships or confidence. Or your child themselves may feel misunderstood, overwhelmed or unsure why things feel difficult.

This is a space where they can begin to understand themselves in a way that feels safe and supportive.

You might be noticing…

  • Big emotions that feel hard to manage

  • Meltdowns or shutdowns

  • Anxiety around school or social situations

  • Difficulty with friendships

  • Low confidence or self-esteem

  • Feeling overwhelmed by everyday expectations

  • Struggling to express how they feel

  • Emotional Based School Non-Attendance (ESBNA or ESBN)

Looking beneath the surface

These experiences are not about something being “wrong” with your child. They are often linked to how your child processes the world, including:

  • Sensory differences

  • Emotional regulation

  • Anxiety

  • The effort it takes to navigate daily expectations

When young people begin to understand themselves, things can start to feel more manageable.

How I Support Young People

I offer one-to-one support through specialist mentoring and wellbeing coaching. Both provide a supportive space, but with slightly different focuses depending on what is needed. Sessions are gentle, flexible and tailored to your child. There is no pressure, we go at a pace that feels comfortable for them.

Specialist Mentoring

Specialist mentoring is more practical and guidance-based. It focuses on helping young people:

  • Understand their experiences and needs

  • Make sense of situations that feel confusing or overwhelming

  • Develop approaches that work for them in daily life

  • Navigate challenges such as school, routines, or relationships

Wellbeing Coaching

Wellbeing coaching offers space to reflect, process, and build self-understanding. It supports young people to:

  • Explore thoughts and emotions

  • Develop confidence and self-awareness

  • Find ways to manage stress or overwhelm

  • Feel more in control of how they respond to situations

A Neurodivergent-Affirming Approach

My approach is neurodivergent-affirming, focusing on understanding rather than trying to change who someone is. This means recognising differences in how young people think, feel, and experience the world, and working in a way that respects those differences. There is no pressure to mask, fit in, or behave in a certain way.

Who This Is For

This is for young people who:

  • Are neurodivergent (diagnosed or not)

  • Feel misunderstood or overwhelmed

  • Want a space where they can be themselves

  • Would benefit from support that fits how they experience the world

Specialist Mentoring for Neurodivergent Young People

Specialist mentoring supports autistic and ADHD young people who may be experiencing barriers related to learning, organisation, overwhelm or navigating education.

Sessions focus on helping young people develop practical strategies that support learning, emotional regulation and self-understanding.

Mentoring may support young people who:

• Struggle with organisation or executive functioning
• Experience anxiety or overwhelm related to school or study
• Find transitions or changes difficult
• Experience emotional based school non-attendance (EBSA)
• Find it difficult to communicate their needs or ask for help

Mentoring is delivered through structured one-to-one sessions, supporting young people to develop confidence, independence and sustainable strategies.

Supporting Young People After Diagnosis

For some young people, receiving an autism or ADHD diagnosis can bring a mixture of relief, questions and uncertainty.

Mentoring can provide a supportive space for young people to explore what this means for them and begin to develop a clearer understanding of their own strengths, needs and ways of thinking.

Post-diagnostic mentoring may support young people to:

• Understand how their brain works and how this may impact learning and daily life
• Explore strengths alongside challenges
• Develop language to describe and communicate their needs
• Build confidence and self-acceptance
• Develop strategies that support wellbeing, learning and independence

This work focuses on helping young people develop a positive understanding of themselves and their neurodivergence, while building practical strategies that support them both in education and everyday life.

Wellbeing Coaching for Young People

Wellbeing coaching offers young people a supportive space to reflect, explore challenges and build confidence.

Sessions focus on helping young people develop self-awareness and practical strategies that support emotional wellbeing and personal growth.

Young people might choose wellbeing coaching if they are experiencing:

• Low confidence or self-esteem
• Stress or overwhelm
• Friendship or relationship challenges
• Pressure related to school, college or university
• Uncertainty about future direction
• Motivation challenges

Wellbeing coaching provides a calm, non-judgemental space where young people can explore their thoughts and develop strategies that help them move forward.

How Sessions Work

Support is delivered through structured one-to-one sessions, providing a calm and supportive space for young people to reflect, develop strategies and build confidence over time.

Sessions typically include:

• 60-minute one-to-one sessions
• Delivered online, allowing young people to access support from a comfortable environment
• Structured 6 or 12 week programmes
• Clear goals agreed at the start of the programme
• Sessions that remain flexible and responsive to the young person’s needs

Each programme is tailored to the individual, allowing space to explore challenges, develop practical strategies and build greater self-understanding.

For young people under 18

Where mentoring or wellbeing coaching is provided for young people under 18, parents or carers are involved in the process in a supportive way.

This usually includes:

• An initial parent intake call to understand the young person’s needs and current challenges
• An optional review session to reflect on progress and next steps

This helps ensure support is helpful for the whole family while still maintaining a safe and confidential space for the young person.

Boundaries

Mentoring and wellbeing coaching focus on supporting young people to better understand themselves and develop strategies for navigating education and everyday life.

To ensure this support remains clear and appropriate, sessions do not include:

• Subject-specific academic tutoring
• Therapy or counselling
• Acting as an advocate on behalf of the young person

If additional support would be helpful, I may suggest other services or professionals who may be better placed to provide that support.

Working together with parents

I also work closely with parents, so you feel supported too. This helps create a consistent, understanding approach at home and ensures your child is supported in a way that feels joined-up and manageable. Visit my Support for Parents page to find out more.
